A NEW life-saving heart defibrillator has been unveiled in Ballintemple as a result of local fundraising and activism within the community. Ballintemple Heart, with the help of the GAA and CAB Motors, has installed a new defibrillator on the junction of Maryville and Monahan Road.
This is the third defibrillator to be installed in the area, Pat Meade of Ballintemple Heart said. Ballintemple Heart was formed two years after Mr Meade attended a first-aid course and learnt about the importance of the machines. The group has since funded and installed these machines in the area through a mixture of fundraising and sponsorship. He said, “I hope they are never used in the area but I find them to be a necessity. It’s an ongoing project but once we have four or five installed, that will be enough for everyone. “I hope nobody has to use them but if they are needed they are there.”
A number of other groups have also fundraised to install defibrillators throughout the wider city area, with MacCurtain St, Oliver Plunkett St, Togher and Blackrockjust some of the areas to add the life-saving equipment in recent months.

College Corinthians confirms appointment of Craig Donnellan as Schoolboy Coaching Coordinator, while Tadhg O’Connell and Joe Gamble are confirmed to remain leading the Senior charge, at recent event held in CAB Motors-
Award-winning Cork dealership, CAB Motors, would like to congratulate Craig Donnellan on this successful appointment to the College Corinthians AFC management team and wish Tadgh O’Connell and Joe Gamble the very best of luck in the upcoming season.
CAB Motors, sponsors of the club for close to twenty years, recently hosted an event in their modern showroom to kick off the start of the new season for College Corinthians AFC, in which the club confirmed the appointment of Schoolboy Coaching Coordinator for the new season 2017/18.
Following a very successful season last year, which saw the senior team reaching the semifinal of the FAI Intermediate Cup, as well as finishing a close third in the Munster Senior League Premier Division, the College Corinthians AFC was delighted to confirm that last year’s very successful management duo of Tadhg O’ Connell and Joe Gamble will once again be at the helm for the new season.
Tadhg has been involved with the club for close to twenty years – 14 years, playing as a schoolboy, youth and adult player, and in recent years as the senior team manager. His experience and knowledge in this manager post is invaluable to both the team and club. Former Cork City star and Irish Senior international, Joe Gamble has been a breath of fresh air since becoming involved with the club last season, having brought with him enthusiasm, coaching ability and a vast football knowledge. This season Joe will be lending a helping hand coaching not only the Corinthians Senior team, but also making his expertise available to coaches at all levels within the club.
Fresh blood in a club is always encouraged and this year the Corinthians are delighted to welcome home Craig Donnellan to the family, as Schoolboy Coaching Coordinator. Craig grew up playing all of his schoolboy football with the Corinthians. As Captain to one of the best schoolboy sides in club history, Craig led this power team to five Premier League titles. He has represented Ireland at under 15, 16 and 17 age levels and is currently a key member of Cobh Ramblers’ youthful League Of Ireland squad.
Over the last few years Craig has been involved in a coaching capacity with some of Corinthians schoolboy teams, and last season he coached the Corinthians Under 15 squad to National Cup glory. His drive and coaching ability are sure to be a tremendous asset for the club’s schoolboy section this season.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming season CAB Motors General Manager, John Wilkins commented, “CAB Motors have been the proud main sponsor of College Corinthians for close to 20 years. For me personally this is a team and sponsorship which is close to my heart having previously played and held coaching and management roles within the club. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Tadhg, Joe, Craig and all the talented players off all ages and divisions the very best for the season ahead. The whole team here at CAB Motors look forward to supporting and following, what we hope and believe will be another winning season.”

College Corinthians AFC
College Corinthians AFC is currently one of the most successful and progressive soccer clubs in Munster. Initially set up to provide a club for UCC graduates, Corinthians has expanded rapidly over the years and now caters for seven adult teams as well as over five hundred schoolboys. Based in the Castletreasure area of Douglas, Corinthians aim is to foster soccer in the Cork area by providing quality facilities and encouraging more people to play football.
College Corinthians AFC was founded by graduates of UCC in 1971. Having played football for UCC AFC during their University years, players wished to maintain their involvement in football and initially a social team was formed. However, based on interest shown, it was decided to apply for membership of the Munster Senior League. The application was accepted in August 1971 which led College Corinthians to play their first competitive match in the Munster Senior League against Wembley. They have been a constant member of the league ever since. The team was managed by Tom O’Leary, and with the kind permission of UCC home games were played in the grounds of University College Cork at the Farm Sports Grounds, Curraheen Road, Cork.
